Have you ever come down from cocaine? Well from what I have been told…it feels like an unfathomable disappointment in the pit of your stomach. Recently, I’ve been recovering from a similar pain after the greatest concert I have ever seen, The Arctic Monkeys at the National in Richmond, Virginia.

Sober as a judge, I had an outer body experience. The sound was surreal. The show opened with a mysterious tune transitioning to “Do I Wanna Know.” The place erupted. Authority enriched in the guitar, bass, and drums strengthened their intergalactic sound.

From one song to the next, I stood in awe. Alex Turner, the cool cat that he is, was rocking his signature leather jacket and the greaser hair-doo. Alex was belting his voice which is basically a flawless instrument in and of itself. He also killed it on the guitar, and yes folks, he nailed the guitar solo on “Arabella.” Speaking of guitar, Jamie Cook, my goodness; Lets just say his guitar had extra Big Mac Sauce.

Nick O’Malleys bass can only be explained as “sick-nasty.” That means the bass rocked so hard that the tune puts a “disgusted/sick” look on your face. Matt Helder on the drums was also the man. He nailed the groovy beats in “Knee Socks” and “Why’d You Only Call Me When Your High?” and the powerful beats on songs like “Arabella” and “R U Mine?”

The show ended with “R U Mine?” and a humongous bang. Surreal and just plain awesome.
