this sounds like early Nirvana, Alex is even wearing a cardigan... kinda creepy.
Nirvana mimicked their favorite artists, so the 3rd hand Pixies sound is to be expected I guess.

Enjoying the meaner sound, bring it on.

As a die hard Arctic Monkeys fan, and also a massive Queens Of The Stone Age fan I must give my opinion on this matter.
After listening thru the new material I have only this to say;
It is without doubt, slow, boring, dark boredering emo, overly simple riffs which could not even be considered entertaining, alternative to the point of useless (what venue would play this?) and altogether very, very poor as arctic monkeys go.
I had such expectations of this band after the second album and the flourescant adolescant single. However it was the Teddy Picker single which was a sign of things to come, and the Last Shadow Puppers (oh dear..). And as I sit here listening to the new Humbug album all the way through on repeat (it has leaked here in America and is all over the internet) That with maybe one exception, crying lightning, the album is on a whole appaling and I feel sorry for anyone who will unknowingly fork out the $15 for it.
And I have written this after forcing myself to sit thru it times on repeat looking for some spark, some glimmer of Arctic genius, I am afraid my friends, it is totally devoid of the sprak which has taken them to such heights.
So as it seems, in 5 years time it will indeed be, Who the fuck are arctic monkeys? What a shame. Especially as Ive already bought tickets to see them!
00:15am, 05-08-09
this is deadly! great sound lookin foward to hearing the rest of the album.
00:27am, 05-08-09
how is this bordering on emo?! Jayhuddy your an idiot! do you even know what emo music is?! and they wanted it to be slower and darker. AM fans who only like pop tunes at a fast pace with very obvious messages have no musical depth and all the band is doing is exploring and moving forward..it doesnt have to be hugely complicated in terms of riffs to be good....AM have never played complicated riffs because they play catchy music..which is what this is...catchy alternative rock which puts them in the same sub- genre as QOTSA so how can Jayhuddy say he hates one and really likes the other?! it makes no sense! and you could make comments about how no-one would play this but dont you think thats the point? they dont want to be "the big thing" and thats why this album doesnt have any pop tunes because they want to be alternative! and how can you dislike the last of the shadow puppets? it was considered as one of the best albums of the year by most music critics in the UK!
00:28am, 05-08-09
Njuta av det elakare ljud, sätta på den.
Well CryingLightning, I do appreciate your constructive feedback, however the insults.. lets grow up a bit.
I like everything AM ever touched, and I mean everything, apart from the the Bsides from the Teddy Picker single.
What I meant by the riffs comment was that, they are in no way catchy. having listened thru the whole album multiple times, cos I mean, they deserve my undivided and prolonged attention, it is clear as you say, theyve wanted to move away from being popular, but given up the catchyness that made them so! and also gave them the edge on the competition!
You need to see that, I love the arctic monkeys, but the new 'direction', not including the LSP (I wont include them in thisbecause that will just complicate things), is just not capitalizing on the ingredient which gave them the quality, and the popularity in my opinion.
And what a joy than to hear their stuff played in a club, out with ure mates, have a sing along and a dance. But to top it all, hearing them live. The new material just does not have any feel good value to it, and will sound dreadful live.
02:07am, 05-08-09
no of course it won't sound bad live!! the bass is much better than either of the last two albums, the drumming and lyrics are also still the best quality you will find in any band around today. And I'm sure most people will agree that the riffs are still very catchy! Can you really not hum the riff from this song or tap the drum beat from crying lightning in your free time?! how are they not catchy?! And not even that simplistic....this songs riffs are much more complex than many of the arctic monkeys songs in the first album and even a few in the second such as teddy picker. I would argue that the songs are still very catchy but instead of selling themselves to the pop market like they did, unintentionally, with the first album they are now much more mature in their musical tastes and want to do something heavier, wierder and meaner. For me its clearly much more interesting music but I agree it won't be to everyone's taste but in a music market which won't get away from formulaic pop music and a bland indie scene you need a big band to say...lets mix it up and that's what AM are doing....adding some good old fashioned "fuck you I do what i want" rock 'n' roll and I love it.
02:08am, 05-08-09
btw how can you dislike the teddy picker b-sides?! they are amazing! and nettles is brilliant to hear live! The crowd explodes!
02:11am, 05-08-09
I have to agree more with CryingLightning on this one JayBuddy. I'm actually really pleased with the album, not to say it's better than favourite or wpsiatwin, but i really love how am are trying to take it one step further each album, it's just more entertaining, and it doesn't get old. Who would want to listen to 5 albums that sound just like the first??, that's why AM stands out than any of the other bands, they have created their own style. In response to the album being boring, you have certainly picked the right video to comment on, potion, i'll admit, is pretty fuckin boring. I mean that riff...sucks, even the nettles has a better riff, but pretty visitors, dangerous animals, and fuckin SECRET DOOR!! they're incredible!! The other thing is i didn't like when i saw people at my school getting into arctic monkeys(mostly just dancefloor and fluorescent), but whenever they do something new, they do what they want, not what people are expecting or hoping is radio friendly, they just keep getting bettter. I mean, does anyone hear QOTSA on the radio anymore?? It's b/c their albums got progressively darker and more original.
10:18am, 05-08-09
i dont think this is boring at all, its got a really powerful guitar riff and alex's lyrics have gotten really dark and intresting, i really like the bit towards the end where they slow everything down, cant wait for the rest of the album !
11:50am, 05-08-09
Well, after sleeping on it. And listening to it over again twice, then listening to the ones you suggested, pretty visitors, dangerous animals and secret door.
I can honestly say to my dissapointment that my opinion has still not changed. Altho it has struck me that this album sounds very similair in style to the QOTSA album Era Vulgaris which deffinately sucks when in comparison to Lullabies to Parralyze or Songs for the Deaf, it seems that both artists simply ran out of the creativity that produced such incredible music, and by the album sales of Era Vulgaris, it seems their fans agree.
I hope you can empaphise with me and the majority of am fans when I say I really dislike the new direction and sound. I find it uneventful and laborious to listen to. I will say however, that some parts of some songs do have a decent instrumental sound, its just the vocal lines that bring it down to depressing levels of dark.
And I know when I say this, I am backed up but a massive chunk of am fans which will also be gravely dissappointed.
11:58am, 05-08-09
i like how it builds up in layers....turners voice is still top notch
reading his lyrics,, theyre reli weird but i luv that, i diddnt get any of his favourite worst nightmare or LSPuppets lyrics at first but you only get it by listening alot
but potion doesnt work as well as pretty visitors wich at first sounds reli weird but works at the end - awesum song writing
secret door and crying lighting are obvy everyones favourites - dance little liar is SIKK
i need to hear cornerstone/jewellers hands (where can i hear this?) and the other ones in a proper version
i am annoyed that arctics hav got slower, i tho0ught they were gonna do more like sandtrap and put me in a terror pocket and if yuo were there beware but they slowed it down - wich is good but theyre next album better be a quick one
looking forward to culture show tonite
18:19pm, 05-08-09
excellent work, this is AWESOME!!! with capital letters, keep on doing what you guys are doing!!!!!! GOOD MUSIC!!!!!
18:27pm, 05-08-09
Cool shit!! alex is sexy.!
potion approaching <3
19:16pm, 05-08-09
WELL an interesting point you made about QOTSA kinda disappearing after era vulgaris, i agree with you, i'm a bit worried. Unless AM goes back to their signature sound on the 4th album , without a hugely dramatic change, i think Humbug will be their last album, before Alex goes back with that "musician" Miles Kane to do LSP. So I am worried, one thing that's bad about the songs are of course the melodies, like has Alex run out?? Pretty Visitors barely has any, dangerous animals, i was kinda disappointed when the chorus was: A N I MAL, blah blah blah, D A N G E R O U S. But Secret door, man you can't deny that song. That song reminds me of 505 mixed with like a western feel from fistful of dollars, it's really original. THis is my main point, I think Favourite Worst Nightmare was Their BEST album to date, then in second with Whatever, but I think you're over exaggerating how bad Humbug is, it's not THAT bad. But I can definitely sense your worry, just like mine. Like....where do you go after an album like Humbug? Hiatus?. So you had strong points jaybuddy. God Miles Kane sucks, hahaha
22:37pm, 06-08-09
One of the things that caught me of AM when i first heard them was the fact that they are different from all the new alternative bands i've heard from the past 5 years that to me they all sound the same, and that all the songs are special and different from each other, that's the thing about this new album, it's just different from the 2 previous albums, but still has that special sound that makes AM so unique....
I think it's great music this album, and i support it....great job guys!
13:58pm, 08-08-09
frehleytor; your a swine.
16:26pm, 08-08-09
@ Frehleytor:
Miles Kane sucks? No, he doesn't. ö The Age of The Understatement is here in Belgium by every fuckin' magazine & every fuckin' paper called as 'the best album of 2008'. That DOES mean something, right? (:
And omg, I'll looove this album, whatever other people say about it. Yeah, they got a little bit slower & I really had to get used to it. But now, after a few plays: This music is written by a bunch of geniuses. :]
The bass is so much better than the other 2 albums. And the drums. Ooh, the drums.. I totally fell in love with those drums. They're awesome. The drums are always the best, in every new song I hear. (:
Oh and CryingLightning:
Couldn't agree more. (:
19:49pm, 08-08-09
Well, Miles Kane doesn't suck, i'm sure he helped a shitload in the making of an album I appreciate very much. From now on, I think only Alex should sing. He ruins every song, except for standing next to me. His voice is soo...bad. HUMBUG is going to kick ass. My only request to the monkeys is to get rid of john ashton, he fucked up some songs a little too much when i saw them at all points west. Also, fuckin tour with QOTSA!!! That'd be the most kick ass tour. Maybe, I am a swine, whatever the fuck that means, i just remember that line from dancing shoes, but I think for the next record, arctic monkeys should get spacey, like what Revolutiongrrrl said, like the Pixies "Bossanova", like add some thermin or some moog and shit. ALSO BACK TO PlasticTramp, didn't you notice how bad the songs were getting after the age of the understatement, it sounded like Alex had no involvement at all: Hang the Cyst?? What the fuck was that??
19:50pm, 08-08-09
Back to Plastic Tramp, I'll admit, the bass is fuckin killer on Humbug, those are the coolest basslines i've ever heard: Crying Lightning, Dangerous Animals.
And Ganja-Prince, I love ganja, and i can sense the monkeys did on Humbug, hahah
this album's gonna be sweet
23:25pm, 08-08-09
wtf is wrong with all you guys, this album is all badass.. stop the shit talking..Its getting annoying.
02:20am, 09-08-09
Arctic's albums are all different, and that's what makes them FUCKING BRILLIANT. You can say whatever the fuck you want, but each and everyone of them are great.
21:31pm, 09-08-09
I'm dissapointed of what i heard i think this isn't the old style of two first albums i liked this old style but the new one is another genre and in my opinion the old "style" is definily better than this new one i cant describe it but i think its two dark.. or two much like last shadow puppets (shit)
09:59am, 10-08-09
i totally agree with chriseee! there new music is to dark, and its like im listening to a different band
16:12pm, 10-08-09
I don't understand people who talk about the big change in arctic monkeys music...are you that lacking in musical diveristy that you think this is a big change for a band?! Think of RHCP's album...funk to rock to pop and all arctic monkeys are doing is playing a bit darker...still witty, ironic and brilliant lyrics, amazing drumming, hooking bass and Jamie is providing alot more on guitar. Bands have to change...particularly young bands otherwise people get bored, the band gets bored, and ultimately they fade away e.g. Sum 41, Offspring, Limp Bizkit, system of a down...all bands that got big and followed up with similar and boring albums and desipite, on the whole, actually creating good music they have faded away from popular music. All AM are doing is finding their own sound...they are almost a unique band in these times just like the beatles, the smiths, The jam and the Who...and none of those bands played what would, at the time, be considered to be regular pop music...they where all a bit heavier and wierder...just like AM. And what i think you musically confined people arn't understanding is that to be unique and to not be repetative is one of the best things musicians can do. The band is walking a tightrope above the dominant culture just like Bob Dylan or Lennon and the music is just one step ahead....it really is the best music any band is making at this moment in time in the whole world so before you criticise think...oh wait i don't really know much about music and shut the fuck up and go listen to your generic and formulated pop music and stop pretending you know what your talking about and let real people listen to the real music.
19:11pm, 10-08-09
Do you all not remember the first album title: whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm not...
so you people that are saying the new stuff is shit, if you pay attention to said album title, you just contradicting it.
do you really think they're gonna be bothered enough to pay attention to you nay saying their stuff.
They are still the same band producing quality assured music.
they moved on, as should you!
ARCTIC MONKEYS = WIN!
09:23am, 11-08-09
I put this to you all:
Does anyone here who didnt like the Last Shadow Puppets like the new album?
Does anyone here who liked the LSP dislike the new album?
It sounds to me more like an LSP album than anything arctic monkeys, what do you reckon?
I personally did not like the LSP however I wont comment on their talent, just wasnt music to my ears.
The only boredering half decent song on the album is Secret Door, the rest is terrible. Id prob say dangerous animals is the worst song on the album.
09:27am, 11-08-09
no wait potion approaching is the worst, no wait fire and the thud, no dance little liar..
its a close call
11:36am, 11-08-09
it just seems to me that their trying to be something their not, i had pre-ordered the album but after listing to the web transmission and crying lighting i think ill cancel it.
and get ur hair cut all of u (execpt matt..he's the only one that hasn't changed)
18:59pm, 11-08-09
I agree with CryingLighting :D totally true :]
09:43am, 12-08-09
I don't understand why people are choosing to slate the new work of the same band that was always here. The band's angle changes with every album, 'Whatever people say, that's what i'm not.' being a satire of Britain to youths and 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' being a follow up in a similar, but more mature theme. 'Humbug', although you complain about the move to a darker sound, is still quintessential Arctic Monkeys; using simple riffs, well rounded drumming and very sharp vocals, however, it just shows of a band who have reached the top of their game and want to experiment. In my opinion, they're still top of the pile and debatably the best Indie band in the world.
14:17pm, 12-08-09
I wouldn't say debatably the best indie band in the world...i would say without a doubt the best band in the world.
16:59pm, 12-08-09
better than the Chili's? I think not
Ive decided the new album is for the hardcore last shadow puppets fans and not for fans of the pre-LSP arctic monkeys
19:49pm, 13-08-09
lol the chilis?! Your joking right? they haven't had a good song for over a decade. Their last 2 sided album consisted of boring drums (as usual), even more random and meaningless singing which is devoid of passion, experience, ability (hes a funk singer not a harmonic pop singer) and without the best bass player in the world they would have had that album burnt all over the world. You are right to say that some pre- LSP won't like it...but people still listening to that music and nothing else alternative and heavier don't know about music...at all. This album is the most gutsy, original thing they have done and it is clearly still arctic monkeys but with a dark side. If you, Jay Huddy, don't like that the band has evolved go and listen to Oasis and see what happens if a band doesn't change...NOTHING HAPPENS. It gets old. No-one wants 10 songs exactly the same as their debut album. They recorded that album at 19...they are now 23/24...they have grown up muscially as you clearly haven't. It really is the best music any band is making at this moment in time in the whole world so before you criticise think...oh wait i don't really know much about music and shut the fuck up and go listen to your generic and formulated pop music and stop pretending you know what your talking about and let real people listen to the real music without your stupid comments. Btw you'll say how do I know what good music is? I just passed my grade 8 distinction (98%) on bass, I have co- produced two Indie bands albums and I'm a music critic for a local music magazine...so yeah I think you should sit down and let the grown-ups talk ok?
Calm down. You've made this into a personal rant at me and not about the music. I apologise in advance to anyone here simply to discuss the music, but CryingLightning is telling me I shouldnt post my opinion as Im not as proffesionally involved with music as he is. And I would love to discuss the music with you, thats why Im here.
I have every right to voice my opinion be it as technical as yours or not, Im still an Arctic Monkeys fan on the side saying I dont like their new sound, and telling me I simply shouldn't discuss it here because Im not 'grown-up' enough due to the fact Im not involved with music proffesionally to the scale you are is absurd.
I do agree that Stadium Arcadium (bar 1 or 2 songs) wasn't upto the standards of Californiacation and By The Way.
And my musical appreciation grows as does everyones, I dislike the sounds of all but 1 of their new songs, they haven't grown in a way I would have liked. The way they grew between their first and second album I liked and appreciated.
I think the main thing I notice is that the Arctic energy has been sucked out of the songs in the transition from Favourite Worst Nightmare. And I suppose that is what really captivated me about them in the first place.
It does sound to me Crying Lightning that you are surprised and infuriated about people disliking the new sound.
So please dont take cheap shots at me personally for giving my opinion, I give credit where it is due and, when a band I like fluffs it I'll shout out for all the people who dont like it either, who can't be bothered to write it up here, most of the people I know and meet who I discuss with on this same subject agree with me, so I at least know I'm not alone.
How can I 'pretend' I know what I'm talking about when I'm voicing an opinion. An opinion cannot be wrong or right. I liked the AM for their sound as a whole and, had I heard someone saying they didn't like any song that I did like, I would counter-argue in its favour.
So on a final note to people like me who are not interested in pointless arguing on forums with people you will never meet (I promise you I wont lower myself to arguing with you personally after this, just thought Id get this clear):
I dislike the new stuff, it is too 'dark' for my liking, I don't care for the vocal lines mainly. I will hold my hand up and say I have no qualifications in music and neither am I interested in achieving any. I, like you all, am an adoring Arctic Monkeys fan excercising my right to speak out when I don't like something.
It is a shame we couldn't have had a civilized discussion about this CryingLightning because we are both quintessentially Arctic Monkeys fans here, but you lowered yourself to making it personal. Again I am not here to argue with you, only discuss, I am interested to hear what you have to say honestly.
In retort, if you will be so stuck-up and obnoxious, and if you are a music critic for a local magazine as you claim, try paragraphs, makes for much easier reading.
02:29am, 14-08-09
I'm writing in rage! A stream of thought rather than a well written arcticle with an intent to insult to Jay so sorry if I get a little hot-headed. I'm just completely dumbfounded by your inability, and the inability of others, to appreciate this music! It is quintessentially the same band that you clearly fell in love with but with more slow songs in their album, with higher levels of musicianship ( the drumming in Pretty Visitors...wow) and vocals which are still baised with irony and cheek. Not only that but Turner has gained the ability to step back and take a broader look at situations which make the song more complex and interesting (The Fire and the Thud for example). I really don't understand how you could even say a negative word about this album.
11:59am, 14-08-09
i looove all the new stuff. It's different, it's good, it's mature. wepsiatwim was nice and pop-ish &what have you, and then came favorite worst nightmare which was similar. TLSP were faaaanntasic. saw them live. just awsome. and Humbug, just brings Arctic Monkeys to a whole new level of fantasm (: It IS QOTSA i heard that in crying lighting without even knowing that it was acctually produced with help from Josh Homme. but that's perfectly fine. Dangerous animals is quite lost art of keeping a secret which must be my favorite hard-rock-ish track. Crying Lighting has acctually been played here in Luxembourg only a week after the release. I LOVE IT ALL (:
17:53pm, 14-08-09
Surely you can see both sides of the argument, I can understand what you're saying. It is purely not my cup of tea to be honest, some songs are just downright dark to the point of gloomy (for want of a better word)!
Can I enquire into your musical roots, i.e. name me your favourite bands of all time top 5 or whatever, need to know where you're coming from.
See it is probably just as surprising to me that people are happy with the darker theme and the reduction of energy which really made the band what it was, in my opinion of course.
20:27pm, 14-08-09
Cryinglightning I have to say some of the points you make are sketchy at best, you say you've co produced an album and write music reviews for a local newspaper and use that to justify your opinions over others but to me it sounds like you panned a few instruments in logic and write in a student newspaper for free.
I dont care what your qualifications are some of the things you say are outrageous and it just makes your opinions less credible. You dis RHCP but if you truely had a good knowledge of music you would know RHCP are one of the few bands of our generation that have without a doubt cemented there reputation as one of the most talented bands in the world, admittedly Stadium Arcadium was a little bit poor but you can't question they're music writing capabilities.
You mentioned bands that 'faded away' because they didn't evolve their sound, but they chose to be that way, and as for SOAD they evolved their sound much during they're musical careed whilst keeping a distinctive sound which is the best way for any band to go, and they didn't fade away they had a mutually agreed hiatus to pursue side projects.
Before I make my last point I have to say, I love the arctic monkeys, metal has always been my favourite genre of music but arctic monkeys are without a doubt my favourite band, that's how good I think they are.
But to say they are the best band in the world is just silly, they are a yound band, and I can seriously see them being the best band in the world in the future but at the moment they aren't, my favourite band yes, but listen to by the way, listen to any muse album, listen to some jazz, they're not the best band in the world.
I have only listened to the new album through once so I don't feel informed enough to make a judgement just yet, however I will agree that turner's genius lyric writing has evolved further and it's great that they have done the opposite of selling out, however the way turner delivers his lines in this new album is drab and awful, the monkey's are at their best when they have energy and melody in their music, however I don't want to say too much about the new album as it may grow on me.
Sorry to have a go, but it annoys me how you've made things so personal over the internet and tried to brag about your 'qualifications' in order to bring other people's arguments down, at the end of the day music is mostly subjective and everyone's opinion should be respected.
Jay, I couldn't think of a top five of all time...I'm sure if you thought about it you would realise how hard it is but these are probably my top five artists to listen to at the moment:
The specials (still amazingly energetic live)
Streetlight manifesto
Arctic Monkeys
Arcade Fire
Bob Dylan
And to DM- 66:
I agree that RHCP are an amazing band but the points I made were not about the band in general but comparing their recent work to, in my opinion, the infinitely better earlier albums that they released. In reference to Anothony Keidis' lyrical abilities I think he had more to say in the older albums compared to more recent ones. Although I realise that his songs did sometimes need to be brokendown to be understood, particualrly in reference to how certain phrases fitted the song, I felt that it didn't seem to click aswell in the album Stadium Arcadium. This is the reason why I said AM are much better than the Chilis because comparing recent work AM's have made better music. On the other hand I agree that By the Way was a tremendous album which did not only have good singles but also fitted together really well as an album. In reference to SOAD although the music remained to be good the band became big hitters after the release of their second album, toxicity, but did not boom in the way expected in the UK (although in the US I appreciate that they did).
Moreover just like you AM are my favourite band and that make's them the best band in the world in my opinion. Admittedly no they are not the best musicians in the world. As you rightly mentioned jazz is a genre packed full of talent but I can not think of any jazz bands that gave me such a connection to their music like the AM's work, including their new album.
And Jay I do respect that your opinion is your own and that everyone connects with music differently and sadly I do know of people who can't connect with music on any level at all (not implying that you are one of them) but I don't like that you say that the band is not being the arctic monkeys because it contains so many of the key components that made the band famous.
Furthermore you have to realise that every big artist like Alex Turner (particuarly with Turner being so young and rising so quickly into the spotlight) starts to dislike the weight on their shoulders of being "the big thing" and of course many react to that through music as that is, after all, their muse. This means that this album was written in a different mindset to the first two albums so the lack of pace is a deliberate thing and maybe the album can't be consistantly listened to like, in particular, the bands debut but that doesn't make it bad music. So despite Humbug having less pace that you expected I think that instead of saying constant negative things about the band's album you could just say "ok this isn't my cup of tea...I apprectiate what they are doing but its not for me" rather than insulting and belittling.
Finally I have made things personal (and I swear that i do not intend to be spiteful) because attacking this music like Jay did in a few of his comments feels like an attack on me because (I'm sure you will agree) your favourite band's can become, to a certain degree, a representation of your persona and therefore attacking the band with comments like this: "It is without doubt, slow, boring, dark boredering emo, overly simple riffs which could not even be considered entertaining, alternative to the point of useless (what venue would play this?) and altogether very, very poor as arctic monkeys go." is quite provoking to me.
04:32am, 17-08-09
How did this turn into a RHCP forum??
....and to Jayhuddy, dangerous animals, now that you said it's the worst song on the album, i'm starting to realize....that song...all of us arctic monkeys fans are kinda just likin that song for the sake of being arctic monkeys. The album as a whole, i don't think will be incredible, b/c of a couple bad apples. Favourite Worst Nightmare or whatever, you didn't need to like the songs for the sake of which band was writing them, but for this album, i think you have to a little. I'll point out my opinion. Don't argue about who's making things personal or not. We're all making it personal because it may be a personal opinion (and everyone can say whatever the fuck they want) but it is still a critic and when someone critics your favourite band it is making it personal no matter what. I'm not here to argue, though. But in my opinion Arctic's new sound's fucking brilliant. Dark yes, a bit different yes, but fucking brilliant. And don't tell me I don't know shit because I've liked AM for five beautiful years. They're older now, they've mature, and they have created this new and amazing sound. They still sound like AM and they still have that energy that makes them who they are. A bit darker, but I love the new sound. And stop talking shit, because it is making it personal. Arctic Monkeys it is and it will always be, in my opinion, the best band of the last decade and so on.

I agree completely Maca which is why I'll stop arguing and just watch the video! :)
10:08am, 19-08-09
Jayhuddy and Cryinglightning you have managed to take interest off of the video and onto your petty "opinion" making argument. Save it for the boring forums that no one reads
Cheers

04:02am, 23-09-09
Honestly I dont see how ppl can critizize Humbug....its a very good album all together....the jewlrs hand isn't their best but still the lyrics are good......and yes the Arctic Monkeys have changed their sound but cant a band do that? Its about progression people....I swear its either the bands music sounds all the same or its too different..."whatever People Say I Am, Thats What I'm Not was a great cheeky album bout witha satirical tone that was really great!....Favorite Worst Nightmare was aslo brilliant...had some very fast pace songs and slower more mature ones....Humbug definatly is the most different of the 3 but still just as good.....the monkeys take on a more darker edge to their all familiar simple rifts and sharp crisp vocals and its also a bit more...err kinky? lol if u get my drift...but in a more mature way.....which I happen to love btw! very different sound and i love it just as much as I loved their cheeky catchy sound when they first came out....so yeah Arctic Monkeys are still very good!!!! and I personally love the album and its songs!!!

Simply FAB
23:33pm, 24-09-09
I THINK THE ALBUMS V.GUD, MENACING, WHICH I LIKE, ENJOY THE FIRST HALF OF THE ALBUM A LITTLE MORE THAN THE SECOND HALF WERE I THINK IT TAILS OFF SLIGHTLY BUT ALL IN ALL I LOVE THE TONE AN THE FEEL OF THE ALBUM, IT SOUNDS UNLIKE ANYTHING IVE EVER HEARD BEFORE WHICH IS WHAT THE MONKEYS ARE GREAT AT, THEIR ORIGINAL, AND THEY HAVE THE BALLS TO CREATE THEIR OWN SOUND AND IM SURE THEY'LL ENJOY SITTING BACK WAITING FOR EVERYBODY TO REALISE JUST HOW GREAT THEY ARE BECAUSE SOME 'FANS' JUST AREN'T GETTING IT WHICH IS A SHAME, ITS AS MUCH ABOUT ATTITUDE AS IT IS ABOUT MUSIC AND I FUCKING LOVE THEIR ATTITUDE BABY HAHAHA
02:53am, 27-09-09

00:38am, 28-10-09
Wow, I can't believe the amount of negativity towards Humbug. While I support the right to your own opinion, this album does NOT deserve half the crap it's copping right now.
There are, of course, best and worsts, but most of the music on Humbug is brilliant. Were you all not prepped for it from Favourite Worst Nightmare? As I recall, that album steered towards the more mature and darker side of AM's music.
I am not for one second a music pro, I know nothing about the technical side of it, not one bit. What I do know is that I love music and Humbug's sound is very pleasing to my ears. I agree 100% with the fact that musicians should evolve.
AM has once again produced a brilliant, original sounding record. This is their genius.
11:34am, 08-11-09

You better could have done alone!!!! you should have never met QOTSA. they are in the top 10 band ever but theyre tired now and guys your second album is always gonna be in the top5 albums ever!!!!!! experimenting is always good and i honestly trust your genious. who am i to say this. keep your pure genious, you dont need anyone to cherish you, you are even at the beginning more authentic and fundamental than the playful qotsa at its beginning. you are not playful, dont imitate dont wish to be. your playfulness is fuckin more sophisticated than that. qotsa wants to experiment with you and want to keep its fame on your back. i adore and respect them and find them to be one of the most influential artisctic company of our century however YOU DONT NEED THEM YOU ARE DIFFERENT AND MUCH MORE POWERFUL AND MUCH DIFFERENT THINGS TO SAY. go on experimenting whaever you want and DONT LISTEN TO ANYONE. i trust you guys and thanx for the elemental energies you have given.
